So this is the place for Marklin Trains is it? I have a questions for you. What makes Marklin better than other trains, and as someone who knows nothing about model trains, why would I want to buy Marklin?

Märklin trains are well known for their quality. They have always been a leader in control systems (Märklin Digital arrived in 1985) and reliability. I still have the Märklin trains I was given in 1965 and they will be able to continue to run for my grandchildren (if we ever get any). Most importantly, Märklin trains RUN! They manage to stay coupled and generally don't derail on their own. (Operator errors are a different matter) They stay on the tracks due to deeper wheel flanges than the typical "American" trains. Märklin is also a 3-rail AC system rather than a DC system. While DC current arcs and can pit contacts, AC doesn't exhibit those problems. In a 3-rail system, there is never a problem with reversing loops where a train enters a tear drop track arrangement and returns on the same track headed in the opposite direction. In a 2-rail (DC) system, the positive rail meets the negative rail so insulation and circuitry is necessary. With a 3-rail system, the center rail (hot) is always the center rail and it never meets the outside rails (common). Model trains should be relaxing and Märklin offers the reliability and quality to keep you relaxed, not frustrated. Feel free to contact me for further information if needed. Bill Ott
